Ghost stories are nothing new, with many famous tales found in novels turned into Hollywood blockbusters. One of the most toured areas for ghost sightings in the US is Texas. The state is famous for the San Antonio hauntings, with many people visiting the local sites that are renowned for sightings.

Alamo is by far the most discussed location in the city. Legend has it that shortly after the historical Battle of Alamo, the local residents started seeing reincarnations of the dead. Since then, the stories have kept piling up. Many of the residents regard it as the most haunted location in San Antonio.

The downtown area is home to a plethora of haunted hotels too. If you have always harbored a strong interest in the paranormal, a few nights in these establishments should cure your curiosity. Among the most prominent haunted establishments in the area are the Emily Morgan, Sheraton Gunter, Menger, Crockett and St. Anthony hotels.

Of all the inns in town, the Holiday Inn Express has a peculiarly morbid reputation. A curious sense of foreboding creeps through you as you walk into the reception area. Prior to being converted into an inn, it served as the county jail.

A host of weird experiences have been reported by guests and staff. Once checked in and resting, one cannot shake off the morbid sense of being watched. Some of the frightening tales told involve windows and doors being opened and closed supernaturally. The installed CCTV cameras have also captured many unexplained apparitions.

The Spanish Governors Residence is another historically haunted site. Just staring at the building from the outside gives one the creeps. It has served many purposes since its construction. Besides being used as a military fortification during the Alamo Battle, it housed lots of shops and an execution arena.

Rumor has it that the spirits of little children roam the hallways and outer sections. There is also a purported ghost of a gruesome murder victim. The reported paranormal activities at this site are testament to the strong belief that people have in the afterlife. You might want to check it out to separate fact from fiction.

Another morbid site is the San Fernando Cathedral. It is easily noticeable in town. It is also the oldest landmark in the area. Its Gothic architecture complements its eeriness. Some late night worshipers often say they get followed by ghostly silhouettes. It is creepy to simply think about it.

An urban legend abounds from the local railroad tracks. The tracks cut across Shane Road. The legend talks of ghosts forcing parked cars onto the tracks. Stories of ghostly nuns and childlike apparitions are also predominant.

Finalize your visit with a tour of the derelict Midget Mansion. There is a dark history surrounding this 1920s building. Night screams often get reported by neighbors. Legend has it that it is a rituals site used by Satanists.
