Key Largo Hotels For A Florida Keys Beach Holiday

By April Briggs

Every list of top beach holidays in the world includes Florida. That's why millions upon millions come here from all over the U. S. And the world to enjoy their holidays in the beaches to be found along the Sunshine State's sun-drenched Gulf Coast and Atlantic coasts. One such extremely popular area here is the Florida Keys archipelago, with the packed Key Largo hotels as home to a non-stop flow of vacationers throughout the year.

The city and island of Key Largo are situated in Monroe County, towards the north end of the Florida Keys. One thing that makes it stand apart from other similarly sunny beach communities is the extraordinary length and the endless beaches that stretch forever along the coast. There's also the fact that it's the perfect gateway stop for visitors from Miami heading for the Everglades.

It makes this place highly popular as a gateway or base for visitors who want to divide their time between the urban fleshpots of Miami and the natural wonders in the 1.4 million acre Everglades National Park. Oh, and let's not forget the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. That's what makes it the self-proclaimed diving capital of the world.

The choice of a hotel as a place to stay should be made taking into consideration the usual factors such as price and amenities. But it's also about the location, which in this case is particularly important. Before getting to actual locations, it might be a good idea to get the lay of the island, so to speak.

This is a very long and thin island, connected to Florida City on the mainland through two bridges. One is the Overseas Highway coming in through the middle of the island, and it then turns to follow the coast and the beaches. The second bridge is on Card Sound Road at the north end. Most good beachfront hotels here are along the Overseas Highway, either on the beach or very close to the water.

Travelers looking for lodging should drive down the highway, as opposed to using the Card Sound Bridge. The lodging options will be lined up end to end alongside the road immediately after the highway enters the city and turns to follow the coast. The exact location regarding where to stay on this route can be decided based on the activities planned for the stay.

So visitors heading for the Everglades will find it easier to get there as they drive further south along the highway. On the other hand, divers, snorkelers and other sundry underwater adventure seekers can explore the coral reef and admire the huge aquarium with a fully reconstructed coral reef inside it if they are closer to the island's middle or the north end. This means a place to stay close to where the highway swings to follow the coast.

As for amenities, most properties here offer everything from refrigerators to microwaves, cable and Wi-Fi in-room. Free coffee or tea is also quite common, along with continental breakfasts. An outdoor swimming pool, free parking, laundry, room service and a concierge should be available to help make the stay easy and comfortable for guests. Regardless of a visitor's choice of hotel, it's a given that a stay in Key Largo is going to be a highly memorable and fun-filled beach holiday.
